"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

This painting by Kristina Česonytė, titled "Catch it if you can," is full of motion and creativity. The background is a light, lemony color, almost like a pale yellow. It features darker splashes and sketch-like drawings. At the center, there’s a large, abstract figure that appears to be in motion, possibly running or leaping. The figure’s form is loose and expressive, made with black and darker strokes. Below this figure, there’s an outline of another character, more distinct and playful. It looks like a cartoonish face with big eyes, a wide smile, and flowing hair or elements around the head. This drawing includes touches of green and bright pink, adding a pop of color. Kristina Česonytė’s style here is energetic and spontaneous. It combines abstract forms with playful elements, bringing the canvas to life. It’s as if she’s inviting viewers to chase whatever images and ideas they can catch from her dynamic brush strokes.
