"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+
The painting depicts two cats rendered in a vibrant red against a calm blue background. The top cat is portrayed in a sitting position, looking to the side, its form slightly abstracted with visible strokes and drips that suggest a loosely defined outline. The lower cat, similarly colored and styled, is captured in a more dynamic posture, appearing to be in the middle of grooming or scratching itself. Both figures are imbued with a sense of motion and fluidity, characterized by the melting and dripping effects of the red paint. The artist’s signature is subtly placed at the bottom right of the composition. The simple color scheme and the fluidity of the forms create a stark and striking visual contrast.
